“The Spirituality of Wine.”

When you read this phrase – the title of Gisela Kreglinger’s unique book on the role of wine throughout the Bible and Christian history – what challenges, biases, reservations or opportunities come to mind for you?

If you’re as curious as we are about this topic, we are excited to invite you to an event on August 20 with this same title.

At “The Spirituality of Wine,” we will welcome Kreglinger to guide us in a discussion about the way that the beverage often invites us to slow down, savor time around the table, and perhaps even deepen our spiritual lives.

Kreglinger grew up on a family-owned winery in Franconia, Germany where her family has been crafting wine for many generations. This unique experience inspired her to write a book about wine’s role in spiritual life. She holds a PhD in historical theology from the University of St. Andrews and weaves together her passions for Christian spirituality and the mysterious world of wine.

“Very few drinks in the world have the capacity to mirror the beauty hidden in creation as does one small glass of wine,” she observes. “Wine is supposed to make us joyful. It’s God’s gift for our happiness.”

On August 20, Kreglinger will help us to examine wine’s role in the Bible, it’s significance in church history, and the central role it plays in the Lord’s Supper. The evening will begin with a presentation from Dr. Kreglinger, followed by a guided wine tasting in which she will introduce us to wine tasting as a spiritual practice.
