What does it look like to live out your faith authentically in your workplace? For some people, this may not seem like a difficult thing to do but for others being a Christian can stir up unwanted hostility or misunderstandings. In this episode, Joanna Meyer talks with Denise Lee Yohn, a keynote speaker, consultant, and writer on brand leadership. She is the bestselling author of the book What Great Brands Do: The Seven Brand-Building Principles that Separate the Best from the Rest and her most recent work, FUSION: How Integrating Brand and Culture Powers the World’s Greatest Companies.
On Faith & Work:
"My faith and the perspective that I have on work, because of my faith, has definitely shaped the way I think about business and the way I think about brand building and the way I think about customer experience, et cetera. But I think the combination of the two has been just as influential in the relationships and the personal connections that I have with people."
On living authentically:
"I think you can only authentically minister to people if you not only accept, but you embrace the fact that being a Christian actually makes you a great coworker, makes you a great servant leader, makes you a great professional..."
On living courageously:
" ...We think that if we hide our faith, we're going to be more likable, but I found, generally speaking, the exact opposite to be true. I found that people really want to know who you are. They want you to be authentic. They want you to bring your whole self to work and your whole self to the relationship. And I think that sometimes when they find out that you haven't done that there can be a real loss of trust..."
