Jeff Haanen

CEO & Executive Director

Jeff Haanen is the Founder of Denver Institute for Faith & Work and the 5280 Fellowship. He contributes to various magazines and publications, including Christianity Today. He has previously served as a school administrator, a pastor and missionary. He holds a B.A. in International Economics and Spanish from Valparaiso University and a Master of Divinity from Denver Seminary. Jeff attends Littleton Christian Church with his wife and four daughters.

Brian Gray

COO & Director of the 5280 Fellowship

Brian is the COO here at DIFW and also leads our 5280 Fellowship program.  Prior to landing at DIFW, he served in pastoral ministry for thirteen years and at Denver Seminary for four years. His vocation includes moving ideas out into life through relationships and conversation – whether that applies to God, work, the Church, good beer, or Liverpool Football Club. He married way out of his league, and spends most of his free-time being parented by his two daughters.

Joanna Meyer

Director of Events & Sponsorships

Joanna serves as Denver Institute’s Director of Events & Sponsorships and oversees the Women & Vocation Initiative. Prior to coming to the Institute, Joanna worked in global telecom, nonprofit consulting, and campus ministry with Cru. In addition to her work at DIFW, Joanna is associate faculty at Denver Seminary and teaches sewing at Fancy Tiger Crafts. A third-generation Coloradan, she appreciates both the state’s innovative culture and its cowboy roots. She has an MA in Social Entrepreneurship from Bakke Graduate University and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Gary Aronhalt

Director of Communications & Technology

Gary Aronhalt is our Director of Communications & Technology.  Having been a caterer, a pastry chef, a guitar salesman, a college-age ministry worker, a worship pastor, a church planter, a liturgical writer and an entrepreneur, Gary brings a significant breadth of experiences to his role.  But it was his work with Greystone Technology, first as tech support and later growing into a wider role as Director of Business Relations, where he gained a deep appreciation and fascination with Colorado’s thriving business community. He has a bachelor’s in Christian Ministry from Tabor College and a Master of Arts in Leadership from Denver Seminary.  And he spends a great deal of time training for & participating in ridiculously long trail and ultra marathon races.

Christine Hersh

Project Manager - Scatter

Christine is the Project Manager for Scatter, DIFW’s online theological learning platform. She is a Master’s of Divinity student at Denver Seminary in Denver, Colorado with concentrations in Spiritual Formation and Theology. She also serves at Bloom Church as a Seminarian focusing on the integration of prayer from Scripture, mysticism, orthodoxy, and church history. Christine loves the outdoors, including backpacking, cycling and star gazing, plus medium rare steaks, Harry Potter, and strong cold brew coffee.

Katie Linn

Office Coordinator

Katie uses her incredibly efficient admin skills, and interest in education, to support all areas of the Denver Institute mission. And, she is currently attending University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work program. Katie has dedicated her professional life to working towards equal educational opportunities for all children. After completing college at Whitworth University, she taught kindergarten in inner-city Houston before moving to Denver to help start an elementary school as the director of curriculum and instruction. Making the move to social work – specifically helping children through grief and trauma – will be the natural next step for Katie and her vocational journey.

Laura Bernero

Blog Curator

Laura Bernero is our blog curator, overseeing both internal content and contributions from our amazing network of writers. She loves all things creative communications, acting on the belief that we all resonate with great narrative and connect to one another through story. In addition to her role at DIFW, she manages media storytelling campaigns at SE2, a Denver-based communications agency. She was 5280 Fellow in the inaugural 2016-17 class and can’t wait to see the program continue to empower leaders throughout Denver in their unique gifts and callings.

Hunter Beaumont

Fellowship Denver Church

Hunter Beaumont (board chair) is co-founder and lead pastor of Fellowship Denver Church. he also serves on the board of Acts 29, a national church planting network. Hunter is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary.

Chris Horst

HOPE International

Chris Horst is the vice president of development at HOPE International, an international microfinance organization that helps people escape poverty. His development staff raise $16 million annually to support HOPE’s mission. Chris contributes to Christianity Today, and co-authored Mission Drift (Baker, 2014)named Christianity Today's leadership book of the year (2015). In addition to his role at HOPE, He serves on the boards of the Colorado Microfinance Alliance and Denver Institute for Faith & Work.

Chuck Stein

Environmental StoneWorks

Chuck is the president and CEO of Environmental StoneWorks. He previously served as the president of OC Masonry Products at Owens Corning and as its chief marketing officer of building materials. Chuck has an MBA from the University of Chicago and attends Platt Park Church in Denver with his wife Susan.

Jim Howey

Blender Products, Inc.

Jim Howey is the director of business development at Blender Products, Inc. He has provided senior-level leadership to companies ranging from a niche metal products manufacturer (his current company) to a national franchisor of retail children’s apparel stores.

Matt Turner

MorningStar Senior Living

Matt Turner is managing partner at MorningStar Senior Living. He is passionate about serving seniors and underprivileged populations around the world. He has overseen the growth of the MorningStar portfolio to over 3,000 units in more than 25 properties throughout the U.S. Matt lives in Denver and attends Fellowship Denver Church.

Jill Anschutz

Independent Consultant

Convinced that “those who tell stories rule society,” Jill logged 10 years of experience in influencing public opinion and perception through strategic communications. While serving as a principal at SE2, a Denver-based communications agency, Jill discovered the joy of integrating the Christian faith with her day-to-day work in the marketplace. Now she tells stories about Denverites bringing the gospel to bear in diverse industries.

Jill is a graduate of Taylor University, graduate of the Impact Denver leadership program, a deacon at Fellowship Denver Church, and a Kentucky Colonel — an honorary commission given by the state of Kentucky to “individuals noted for their public service and their work for the advancement of Kentucky.”

Dan Dye

Ardent Mills

Dan Dye is CEO of Ardent Mills in Denver, CO. He has been a Senior Leader in the 5280 Fellowship, and his tours of the Ardent Mills test kitchens are always a highlight! He has also been featured in several popular DIFW blogs.

Bob Larkin

Bank of America Merrill Lynch

Bob Larkin is Senior Vice President, Global Commercial Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He has been in Commercial Banking positions since January of 2006 and has held senior leadership roles at both Bank of America Merrill Lynch and JPMorgan Chase’s Commercial Bank. He studied at Florida State University and attends St. Patrick’s Presbyterian Church (EPC).

Cindy Chang Mahlberg

Colorado Center for Dermatology & Skin Surgery

Cindy Chang Mahlberg is business director and integrator at the Colorado Center for Dermatology and Skin Surgery, and co-founder of Women in the Mix, a social venture focused on empowering and equipping women to thrive in work and life. She previously worked as a lawyer at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Credit Suisse. She received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and completed the Gotham Fellowship at the Center for Faith & Work in New York City. She lives with her husband and two children in Lone Tree.

Tim McTavish

Colorado Christian University

Tim McTavish is currently the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and adjunct professor at Colorado Christian University. He also appears on page 19 our our 2016 Impact Report!

John Paasonen


John is the Co-Founder and CEO of Maxwell, a marketplace that makes shopping for your mortgage simple, intuitive and human. He has a proven track record in building businesses and executing growth strategies through marketing and engagement, partnerships and effective leadership. John is passionate about disrupting traditional financial services markets by focusing on the consumer experience.  John graduated from Taylor University with a BA in International Business and he holds an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Doug Smith

College of Engineering and Applied Science, CU Boulder

Doug Smith is the Assistant Dean at the College of Engineering and Applied Science, CU Boulder.

Drew Yancey


Drew Yancey is the president of Yancey’s, a produce merchandising and distribution company based in Loveland, and entrepreneur-in-residence at Peak Solutions, where he works as a management consultant.  Drew is also a PhD candidate at the University of Birmingham (UK) researching the connection between theology and entrepreneurship. Drew has an MBA from Texas A&M and an MDiv from Denver Seminary.

Adam Hasemeyer

Spire Digital

Adam Hasemeyer is the president of Spire Digital, a Denver-based digital product development firm that transforms business through design and technology. He is responsible for leading the acquisition and management of all client relationships at Spire Digital. Adam is passionate about bringing people together to deliver great results for his clients and volunteer organizations. He studied at Miami University and currently serves on the board of Pledge 1% Colorado.
